Artist's Description

This oil painting remembers a time when being different was a crime. We see the Parliament clock tower (Big Ben) outside the window. Parliament made the laws that sent the police into the privacy of people homes, in order to arrest and punish them for being different. We are all different.

David Westwood

I was born on the 20th February 1968 and grew up in the shadow of Birmingham, England. The second largest city in the UK. I come from a working class back-ground. I am gay and came out to my family at the age of 16 in 1984. At first my family rejected my sexuality. AIDS was hitting the headlines as, “the gay plague,” and they really did not understand why I had, “chosen,” to be gay. Eventually however, they realized it was not a choice and they did accept me. This conflict is documented in many of my artworks along with my interest in history and politics. My artwork is created to be seen and when it has been looked at it has achieved his goal.
